FAQs

How long does it take a Hybrid Light to fully charge?
About one hour of bright sun will provide one hour of light. Since the basic Hybrid Flashlight will store up to 8 hours of light, a full charge of 8 hours will provide 8 hours of light. However, when charging on a cloudy day or from indoor light, the full charge might take a bit longer.
-
Is the charging time the same for the Hybrid Lantern and Spotlight?
Yes, but the rate of charge will vary based on the intensity of light when charging. The Camping Lantern and Spotlight can stay out and charge most of the day, providing impressive lighting from dusk until dawn.
-
Do the Hybrid Light collectors need replacement?
The collectors and charging system was made to last indefinitely. Unless damaged, the collector is expected to hold its solar charging ability for years and will immediately provide light with a first click of the switch.
-
How do you know when it is necessary to use the battery back up system as opposed to just the solar energy from the collector?
The batteries as you noted, are a back up system and it is the solar energy collected that is used to power the light. We recommend keeping the back up batteries in all Hybrid Lights just in case of a long term emergency situation that will provide access to both power sources.
-
What kind of batteries are used as backup in the flashlights?
There are two Lithium CR2032 (looks like a nickel). They provide about 50 hours of light and have a 7 year shelf life.
-
Where can you find these batteries?
They are available at most discount retailers and drug stores in addition to camera shops and electronic stores; and are reasonably priced.
-
How bright is the Hybrid Flashlight?
The smaller model (HL40) yields 40 lumens which is equal to 1 watt of power or 16 standard LED's, while the HL 120, which provides 120 Lumens, will be three times as bright from three watts of power.
-
What are the different user options?
There is only the need to click between power sources. The first click uses power from the collector, and the second from the back up batteries (should this be necessary.)
-
How do I know if the light is fully charged?
The red light indicator will glow when the light is charging, but there is no indicator that the light is fully charged. Note that 8 hours of bright sun will fully charge the light. In the event you do not have your light fully charged, your back up battery can be used until you are able to recharge the light for solar use.
-
Does the collector still function to charge from ambient light or cloudy days?
Yes, but the most efficient charge to the collector takes place when the light is brightest.
-
How do I know if I am using power from the collector or the battery?
The yellow indicator light will be on when solar is being used on the first click of the power switch. On the second click of the switch, a green light will shine letting you know you have engaged the back up battery.
-
How heavy is the Hybrid Flashlight?
The 40 Lumen (HL40) weighs 4 ounces and the HL 120 (the 120 Lumen) weighs 7 ounces.
-
I have heard that there are some states that require that "walkers" or those walking their dogs after sundown, are required to carry their own flashlights. Especially those on country roads. Can you confirm this?
While we have no official position on this question, we have had many flashlights sold to pet stores for the purpose of adding to comfort when dog walking during nighttime hours. And when you think that the 40 Lumens model only weighs 4 ounces, there would be no reason NOT to take along the Hybrid Light.

I am involved in an organization that does a lot of fund raising, and instead of selling cookies (like the Girl Scouts), feel that the Hybrid Light is the PERFECT product to use for such purposes. Who can I contact at Hybrid Light.
This is a great idea and we in fact make available our basic flashlights at a cost efficient price for use in either fund raising, or as a premium or incentive for business in general. Simply call our 800 number let one of our customer service representatives know of your interest. You will be connected with a department head who will work closely with you.
