It was a long weekend of adversity and character building for Scott Lagasse Jr. and the #8 HybridLight / Boy Scouts of America crew as they battled their way to a solid 20th place finish in Saturday's running of the Sam's Town 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

After watching valuable practice time get washed away with the inclement weather on Friday and then losing their primary car in an early morning practice mishap on Saturday morning, just hours before the start of the race, the TeamSLR crew had their work cut out for them before they ever took the green flag. Through an absolute display of team harmony and commitment, the #8 crew rallied and made it to the grid with their backup Chevy Camaro in time for the start of the race.

Lagasse Jr. was on his 4th lap of practice and just 5 car lengths behind the # 19 car, preparing to pass, when the #19 car had a mechanical failure instantly spreading oil directly in front of Lagasse, sending both cars hard into the wall.

"Our crew pulled together and made the best of the day with an ill handling race car, running as high as 16th during the 300 mile event. "Well, when you look back at it, today's race went ok overall with the issue we had in the morning practice having to pull the backup car out with no laps on the track. We were kinda in survival mode for the first part of the race, just learning what the car needed to go fast. Scotty and the whole HybridLight / Boy Scouts of America Chevy team did a great job making changes to improve the car's performance all day." said crew chief Brad Parrott. We were able to come home with 20th finishing position today. Now it's time to get back to the shop and tune up our hot rod for the next race."

When asked how he felt the day went from his perspective, Lagasse Jr. was quick to praise the efforts of the entire #8 crew for meeting the challenge of getting their second car prepared and ready to race in such a short time.

"Today was a tough day! Considering we never turned a practice lap on the track with

this car, it turned out OK." said Lagasse Jr. "You're never happy with 20th place, but after the weekend we've had, it feels like a win. I'm just so proud of this whole HybridLight / Boy Scouts of America team and the effort they put into this race. Our ability to recover was impressive and is a direct reflection of our partnership with TBR and the Leadership Tommy Baldwin provides. The scout motto is "Be Prepared". Brad and the crew certainly demonstrated they were prepared for whatever was thrown at them. We'll keep working and getting better with each race."

Lagasse Jr. also ran a special paint scheme on the hood of his #8 HybridLight / Boy Scouts of America Chevy this weekend promoting the new reality adventure show "Are You Tougher Than a Boy Scout" which can be seen on the National Geographic Channel on Monday nights at 8:00 pm. ET

With HybridLight's headquarters less than 2 hours from Las Vegas, many of the employees, fans and friends were on hand for the race as well as twenty lucky Scouts & parents that won an opportunity to see behind the scenes of a NASCAR Race. "It's so great to be able to meet and spend time with the Scouts & Executives before each race. It's a real honor to be able to carry the BSA logo and promote the new show on the National Geographic Channel. I just hope we were able to make the Scouts proud today." commented Lagasse Jr.

NASCAR driver Scott Lagasse Jr. is used to driving high performance stock cars at speeds reaching in excess of 200 mph on high banked ovals across America so when he pulled up in the #8 HybridLight / Boy Scouts of America Chevrolet Camaro to pick up Daniel Bolen for the Rev it Up Drive a Scout to School Experience, you can only imagine the look on the youngster’s face. Bolen, a student at the Orangewood Christian School in Maitland, FL was rewarded with a special treat on Wednesday by being chosen by the Boy Scouts of America Central Florida Council to honor him for his community service efforts in building an inner-city memorial to children who had lost their lives to violent crimes.

Upon arriving at school, Bolen and Lagasse Jr. were greeted by an anxious group of Bolen’s fellow 7th and 8th grade scouts and students who immediately swarmed the car to get their very own up-close view of a real NASCAR scock car.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation’s largest and most recognized values-based youth development organizations. For over a century Scouting has provided an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. The Boy Scouts of America prepares young people for life by providing the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. The Scouting organization is composed of 2.7 million youth members between the ages of 7 and 21, and more than a million volunteers, in nearly 300 local councils throughout the United States and its territories.
